Training Future Captains and Chief Engineers!

Training Future Captains and Chief Engineers!

18 March 2025

Headquartered in London, Zodiac Maritime is proud to offer cadetships in the UK and internationally.

A cadetship training programme combines practical on-the-job experience and formal, facilitated training to fully prepare new seafarers to be maritime professionals.

There are a range of exciting training options available: Deck cadets spend time working on the bridge, learning the basics of navigation, cargo operations, maintenance and safety to name only a few! And our Engine and Electrical cadets learn the skills necessary to successfully operate and maintain the vessel’s machinery and electronic systems.

We recently had the pleasure of visiting potential cadets at the Maritime Education and Training department in the City of Glasgow College, Scotland. We visit maritime training institutions to showcase our cadet sponsorship opportunities to students and talk to our commitment around developing the next generation of maritime professionals. As 90% of the goods and products that support modern society are transported by sea, we truly believe that seafarers are the unsung heroes of global trade!

We are always delighted to meet with prospective cadets and answer all their questions around working at sea, working for Zodiac Maritime, the types of vessels we operate, our fleet size, what the opportunities post-cadetships might be; and many more! We are constantly impressed with the energy and passion that students demonstrated.

Informal discussions at open days like this can be a first step in our cadet recruitment process.  This is followed by a more formal interview to determine what type of cadetship the candidate might be interested in and what level of study they want to embark on. A second interview then allows further opportunity for questions about sponsorship opportunities.

Zodiac Maritime’s diverse fleet is trusted by the world’s leading companies to transport their essential cargoes around the world. As a result, our cadets have the unique opportunity to train across a wide variety of vessels; including containerships, bulk carriers, tankers, and car and truck carriers (PCTCs), before deciding where they want to further their seafaring career.
