Minimising our environmental impacts

Looking to the future

As the shipping industry continues to strive for a more sustainable future, we join the mission to find solutions to minimise the impact of maritime shipping activity on the environment.

Whether it’s introducing dual fuel vessels, retrofitting our existing tonnage, or intensively monitoring and training our crew, we endeavour to be a part of making shipping a more environmental enterprise.

Some of the specific technologies we have been implementing over the years to improve our energy efficiency include:

– Mewis ducts
– Propeller boss cap fins
– Bulbous bow modifications
– Propeller modifications
– LED lighting on board
– High-performance paints
– Autopilot technology

We are also employing digital twins of vessels in our fleet, allowing us to better measure performance and help map the most efficient routes for our vessels.

Dual-fuel engines

From 2023, we introduced new vessels fitted with dual fuel engines, a significant technology for the shipping industry’s transition to renewable energy. These have shown;

– A reduction of SOx emissions between 90 and 100%
– Up to 90% reduction in particulate matter released
– Reduced CO2 emissions by up to 18%

Our responsibility to the environment

We understand our responsibility for the environment in which we operate. As we engage with others in the industry to share learnings and perspectives on meeting the challenge, we are continually making advances to reduce the effects of our business operations on the marine environment. As the relevant technologies develop further, we are committed to taking the necessary steps to implement these practices across the fleet.
