Zodiac Maritime strengthens presence in India with expanded hub operations

AUGUST 18, 2026, MUMBAI, INDIA – Zodiac Maritime has officially inaugurated its expanded Mumbai office, marking an important milestone in the company’s growth in India. The opening comes as Zodiac celebrates its 50th anniversary, having grown since its incorporation in London in 1976 into one of the world’s largest privately owned shipping companies. Today, it operates a diverse fleet of vessels across all sectors amounting to 19 million deadweight tonnes, supported by more than 6,500 seafarers worldwide. Tanuj Luthra, Chief Operating Officer, said of the expansion: “Our expanded India Hub reflects our confidence in India’s maritime industry with its large and highly skilled maritime talent pool, strong leadership and culture of innovation and constant development.”

UK-headquartered Zodiac Maritime has a proven reputation for trust, integrity and reliability with long-standing, high-profile business partners across the world. This solid reputation built over decades has led to growth and Zodiac maritime currently has a substantial newbuilding program, with over 30 ships on order for delivery by 2031.

Zodiac’s Mumbai office opened in 2014 and has since evolved from a relatively small crewing operation into a major manning and maritime support hub. At the time of opening, approximately 1,000 Indian seafarers served across the Zodiac fleet, and today, this figure exceeds 2,500, representing almost half of the company’s global seafarer pool. Zodiac also supports the training of close to 400 Indian cadets and trainees, out of their global cadet pool of over 650. A key role of the Mumbai team is to manage cadet onboarding and training programmes, working with a number of leading maritime training institutions across the country to give them the skills and competencies needed to become world-class navigators and engineers. This investment benefits not just Zodiac, but the wider Indian maritime talent pool as many of these cadets go on to become officers at sea, and also take up positions ashore in ship management companies, crewing offices, Classification societies, engineering firms, shipyards, etc.

Zodiac advocates that talent is the backbone of the maritime sector and is fully committed to the development of seafaring skills, in order to attract and retain the brightest talent to support their operations.

The new hub reflects Zodiac’s continued investment in its presence in India and in the development of maritime talent. Looking ahead, Mr Luthra commented: “We see exceptional maritime talent in India, both at sea and ashore, and this expanded facility will allow us to support a wider range of operational activities, while further developing the capabilities we have in Mumbai.”

The Director General of Shipping, Shyam Jagannathan, said, “Zodiac Maritime has made a valuable and sustained contribution to lndia’s maritime sector, particularly through the employment of around 2,500 Indian seafarers. The expansion of the Zodiac India office is a significant milestone and reflects the organisation’s long-term vision and commitment to India”. The Director General extended his congratulations on the inauguration of the Zodiac India Hub.
