Environmental Impact

Fuel consumption on ships during engine combustion generates harmful emissions to air. It also requires the use of a fossil fuel that must be obtained from global oil reserves and refined for use. The volatility and upward trend in the price of fuel means that being able to increase the efficiency of a ship's engine and consequently reducing fuel consumption benefits the environment and our customers.

Customers throughout the logistical chain are increasing their awareness of CO2 emissions. To demonstrate our commitment to reducing CO2, we are implementing the use of the EEOI. By measuring the output of the CO2 produced per tonne-mile, we can identify the most efficient operations and focus on ways to reduce the consumption across the whole fleet.

We have already tested the EEOI on a sample of our fleet. We're developing an IT module, that will link in data received from the ships, with the cargo reports completed after port operations. This module will allow us to have daily updates of the EEOI levels. By understanding and quantifying our CO2 emissions, we can invest effectively in ways to reduce them.
